Littleton/Route 495 is a rail station on the MBTA Commuter Rail system in Littleton, Massachusetts. The station is located at the intersection of Grimes Lane and Foster Street. Service to the station is provided by the Fitchburg Line from Boston to Fitchburg, Massachusetts both inbound and outbound.[3]
The station is a replacement for the original Littleton Station, which was built by the Fitchburg Railroad and acquired by the Boston and Maine Railroad. The original station was 1.6 miles further north along the rail line, at the intersection of King Street and Taylor Road. The building still exists as a stove restoration shop.[4]
As part of the upgrades on the Fitchburg line, the Littleton station will be significantly renovated. An 800 foot high-level island platform will replace the current 200 foot low-level side platform (the line will be double-tracked as part of the upgrade), and benches, a new canopy, and a pedestrian bridge will be added. The current 44 public parking spaces will be eliminated by the second track, but the MBTA may buy the larger 100-space private lot. In turn, Nordblom, who owns the private lot, may build a second lot on its adjacent land.[1] Bidding for the new construction opened on 18 August 2011, with the bidding period lasting until September 20th.[5]
